Today, we’ll be discussing USC Viterbi Engineering’s acceptance rate for 2022-23.

Let’s take a look at some of their statistics online.

“2023 is now officially the most competitive year for admission at USC and the Viterbi School.  We are incredibly grateful to have such a fantastic group of students from which we can choose our incoming class.

“While numbers aren’t final just yet, the number of admitted students for the USC Viterbi School of Engineering is definitely ending up lower than last year, and will likely result in an acceptance rate for Fall 2023 around 8%.“

Today, we were quite fortunate to hear from one of our clients who was accepted into USC for Engineering at Viterbi.

They attended Admit Day.

Here’s what they had to say about the admissions process.

1. Collaboration with other students appears to be of important emphasis to the admissions committee.
   • Her experience with collaborating and working with a diverse group of students during her academic years may have played a role in her acceptance.
2. Keeping USC’s Engineering class 50% Men and 50% Women is of major significance to the admissions committee.
3. They read out examples of short answer responses that were admitted. Many answers were quite similar in format:
   • interesting answers that strayed from the norm
   • unafraid of being peculiar
   • adding extra details after the answer to fill out the character count.
4. USC is INTENTIONALLY keeping their Engineering class small.
5. Diversity is of MAJOR importance to the admissions committee.
6. On average, students only had 3 Bs.
   • This means the average student accepted into USC Viterbi had a GPA of 3.9 unweighted.

Perhaps one of the biggest things to consider from this information is diversity.

That’s right.

The college admissions process is not like it was years ago.

It’s not just about getting the highest grades and the most impressive ECs; although, they’re certainly needed.

USC is also looking to step on the gas when it comes to diversity.

So, if you’re looking to get accepted into USC for Engineering at Viterbi, you’re going to need to think about how to meet their diversity needs. And, we don’t think being a girl in STEM will be enough.

For the sake of clarity, we’ll be condensing the ideas discussed during USC’s Admit Day in the following list below.

Things that USC is looking for.

1. Collaborative ECs or Experiences.
2. Gender Diversity.
3. Interesting USC Essays.
4. Diversity.
5. GPA.

Although you can’t really control your gender diversity, and you most probably can’t control the GPA you’ll be applying with anymore, you can certainly control the way you write your college essays.

In fact, you can make your USC Viterbi essays much stronger than the rest of the competition. And, you’ll certainly need to do so if you want to have a chance of getting accepted.
