ABOUT ME
ABOUT PENNINGPAPERS
Hey y’all! I’m Jason: the founder of PenningPapers.
I graduated from UCD with a Bachelor’s in English and worked at a private test prep center as an SAT/ACT English tutor for 7 years. There, I also worked as a college consultant and essay editor.
During my 7 years, I saw the admissions game change: smart kids were getting rejected everywhere. And, none of my colleagues really started to know what was going on. However, we found the #1 weakness in college apps is not their GPAs or SATs: it’s their college essays.
That is, most people sucked at writing!
So, I created this blog to share strategies for college essay writing best practices. But, over the years, I’ve come to realize that the ever-increasing volatility in admissions results has led to a market for predatory college consulting services.
Over the years, I’ve come to try and provide reasonable college counseling and consulting advice. And, I’ve also found this advice ran perpendicular to what a lot of other consultants say. My journey growing PenningPapers has revealed to me how many bad-faith actors in the college consulting sphere there were.
So, this blog aims to debunk a lot of the college admissions BS floating around the web. It also serves to provide students with reasonable, actionable steps they can take to maximize their chances of acceptance.
I created this blog to dissect some of the BS in the college apps industry (while providing actionable advice.) If you’re interested in our college admissions essay editing, college counseling, test prep, or general advising services, you can reach out to us here for a free consultation!
Oh, and you can check me out on Reddit as well!
